Going for an interview with your potential employer is the second step in the process of applying for and getting a job. The first step comprised of completing the application and sending it across to the company where it would have been screened before you were selected.
There are many different ways through which the employer would have received the resume including a headhunter, a friend’s referral, a newspaper ad or perhaps it was directly submitted by the applicant through the company’s website.
Now that you’ve got through the first step, here are a few ways to help you pass that all-important interview:
1- Find out all you can about the company before you go in for the interview.
2- The best way to prepare yourself for answering all the questions you are likely to be asked at the interview is by practicing. Asking a relative or a friend to ask you questions so that you could practice your replies is a good idea.
3- Never be late for your interview. It is far better to be at the office at least 10 or 15 minutes early than be even a minute late. Being early for an interview shows you are a punctual person who can be trusted to be in the office on time everyday.
4- Carrying a portfolio of your precious work is a good idea especially if the job you are applying for is that of a photographer or architect or any other in a related field.
5- Dress smartly when you are going to any interview. Your appearance reveals a lot about you so you have to take the extra effort to look smart. Have a manicure if necessary and make sure your hair is neatly combed and clothes well ironed. Your clothes should be well coordinated. Don’t overdo the jewelry when going for an interview. Keep it simple.
6- When you enter the room, greeting your prospective employer with a smile and a firm handshake will ensure that your interview is off to a good start.
7- During the interview, pay close attention to all that is being said and all the questions you are being asked. Answer all questions as confidently and honestly as you can.
8- When the interview is over, thank the interviewer for his time before you leave the room.
