This could happen more because people who have jobs try everything possible so that they do not lose their jobs.

Unemployment is a scary thought especially when everybody dreams of living a decent life, for which they need to have a job and earn their money. However, studies show that unemployment rates are high and in 1990, 45% of the people were unemployed in the United States and only 24% were reported to be holding full time jobs. The high rate of unemployment makes people even more determined not lose the job they already have.

However, latest reports from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics show that a higher percentage of people are now working and earning higher salaries. There are now lesser families that fall into the $10,000 to $50,000 earning bracket as compared to earlier and more families that earn more than that.

For people who presently hold jobs and do not want to ever find themselves jobless again, here are a few tips that will help:

1- Employees must do their utmost to bring about an improvement in their performance: Besides trying their best to do a good job, employees should always try to bring about an improvement in their performance, which in turn leads to increased productivity.

When there is an improvement in productivity there will also be an increase in the company’s income. Increased income means an increase in funds with which to pay the employee’s salaries and also a higher chance that the company will be more agreeable to supporting and boosting its employee’s motivation.
2 – Employees should avoid procrastination. Any employee who wishes to retain his job should be careful not to procrastinate on his assignments. People who shirk their jobs or just take too long to complete it can never be fully trusted. And if it happens too often, they will almost certainly find themselves out a job soon.

3- A person should look for a job that he or she would truly like to do. If a person does not like the job he is doing, or the company he is working with, his unhappiness will eventually show. Employers are reluctant to keep employees who are unhappy with their jobs as this can lower the morale of the whole office. A person has a higher chance of keeping his job if he likes it.
