TaxRefund – Celebrating at a Chinese Buffet

Tax refunds came in this week! That will be a true godsend for us this month. We got a $2300 refund, deposited in our bank account yesterday.

Cindy and I decided to celebrate, so we packed the kids into the car and headed over to our local chinese restaurant called the “Buffet King”.

While we have a refund, we both decided that most of this money is either going to go to paying the delinquent mortgage, or paying off a credit card. We’re not sure which, but we’ll have to decide later.

Today we’ve decided to just celebrate the freedom that a little bit of extra money can bring…but we did it reasonably. At a buffet they make you pay per person. Cindy is very small, and our kids don’t eat much – so we decided that we would get some extra value by bringing in tupperware. How did we do it? Cindy carries around a huge shoulder-bag, so we put 4 medium tupperware dishes stacked up inside.

The Buffet prices weren’t bad to begin with, about $7 per adult, and $4 for kids for dinner. We paid for our plates, found a table, and we were ready to eat!

The restaurant was small, but pretty quaint for a buffet. Nice table coverings and great ambience. We found a table, and then headed over to the buffet.

What a selection!

Cindy and I each filled up a plate, came to the table with the kids, and we each filled a tupperware dish full of the food, and then we went back and got another plateful. So, so far:

- 4 Plates of Chinese food for $14.

The food was great!

When we were done eating, Cindy and I took turns and went back for “seconds”. We filled two more tupperware dishes. Then we went back one more time and enjoyed a second plate of great fried wontons, sweet and sour chicken, spring rolls, pork friend rice….they had everything to choose from.

Final total for the adult plates were:

- 8 plates of Chinese food for $14.

That comes to only $1.75 per plate!! There’s no place you can find anywhere that you can eat for only $1.75 a plate.

The secret, of course, is to find a buffet where you can get in with some tupperware, fill them without being seen, and leaving the restaurant without suspicion. But we were able to do it, and now we’ve enjoyed a wonderful meal, and we have 2 more full meals each.

Is it stealing, or is it getting your money’s worth? We think it’s getting an excellent value for your money!
