Knit With Feeling

I love to knit. Not discounting the occasional cuss word when perfect is not achieved, I have to say I find it relaxing and knitting brings me peace.

That said, there was “The Sweater”.

I had picked out a sweet cabled cardigan for my then four year old granddaughter. Ashley has soft brown hair and a pixie look about her. When I looked at that pattern, I pictured her romping through fields of wild flowers with a gentle breeze blowing through her tumbling locks….get the picture?

I picked a steel blue yarn and settled into my rocker for a decent session of knitting. Armed with a cup of tea, I cast on the back of “The Sweater”. I will not go into the detail of the trials and tribulations of completing a sweater I know originated in the depths of hell. When I was too far into the project to even consider frogging it, I had faced typos, pattern errors and instructions that skipped entire sections of needed directions.

I tensed every time I even looked at the knitting bag that held that sweater. I found any excuse to start and knit to completion many other projects while “The Sweater” lay in wait. Christmas loomed. I NEEDED to get on with Ashley’s sweater. At this point all my other grandchildren had a finished sweater.

One morning as I was complaining to my daughter, Lori, about my ordeal, she chastised me for knitting bad thoughts and vibes into her niece’s gift.

That conversation got me to thinking. Knitting a gift for someone we love is as close to hugging them as we can get without actually enveloping them in our arms. Generally, as I knit on something for someone I love, I am filled with warmth and feelings of joy. I think that’s why we get so passionate about knitting. We are literally sharing a piece of ourselves with the recipient.

After that chat with Lori I decided to change my attitude about Ashley’s sweater. As I knit on it, I thought about how beautifully the pieces were fitting together, I patted myself on the back for overcoming a very poorly written pattern and creating a lovely sweater.

When I wrapped that sweater in tissue I actually caressed it before putting the box cover on. I loved that sweater.

I will never knit harsh thoughts into another gift for a cherished loved one. I will, good naturedly, approach each difficult step with positive thoughts and I will frog the sucker immediately if I feel one iota of negativity flowing from my fingers to that yarn!

Holly Burnham is a self admitted yarn addict. The addiction will be life long and there is no hope of remission. Her constant knitting has put the cleanliness of her home in peril. Her yarn stashes are havens for generations of moths. At the risk of contracting this affliction, visit her at http://www.knittinghaven.com

Unfortunately your sex can make a huge difference to the amount of car insurance that you pay. Women drivers while having been the brunt of many jokes, particularity from male drivers, can in fact get cheaper car insurance than men.

Statistics have shown that women are indeed safer drivers than men, this is because women have been proven to make less claims than men do on their insurance. They also usually go for much less flashier cars than men choose, instead going for the more reserved and what is classed as the safer car.

There are many online companies now taking advantage of this fact and as such are offering deals specifically aimed at the women driver. Lady drivers can now search online for companies aimed at them and by doing so they can make huge savings on the amount of premiums they pay for car insurance.

However, there are other factors that determine how cheap you get your car insurance, regardless of your sex. The best, cheapest and quickest way to look for your car insurance is by doing so online. By looking online for your car insurance you are able to get instant quotes from many companies which ensures that you choose the cheapest deal possible.

Policy features and benefits and the cost of car insurance does vary from company to company and all policies have exclusions hidden within them so it is essential that you understand just what is included in the quote.

Other factors which are taken into account include the area in which you live. Depending on your postcode you can be charged a higher premium for your car insurance. While there isn’t much you can do to change this you can make sure you have the best security features installed on your car, by doing so you can help to reduce the premium.

Microsoft Great Plains software development, customizations, reporting. Microsoft Dexterity programming as reliable alternative to newer technologies and platforms, such as .Net, C# and VB MS Visual Studio development, eConnect, XML: Web Services.

Alba Spectrum Group is proud to announce Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity group development headcount increase. We are serving USA nation-wide from our Dexterity project management facilities in Houston, TX and Chicago, IL. Luis Leung (Alba Spectrum Texas) and Andrew Karasev (Alba Spectrum Illinois) are lead project managers for Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity customization, integration, reporting, form modification projects. Some Microsoft Dexterity technological features:

? Sanscript. This is Dexterity programming language. It is actually compiled and stored in Dynamics.dic with development source code. Dex is cursor oriented DB accessing programming language, however you can also call MS SQL Server stored procedures (with SQL Select statement aggregation logic)

? Alternate Forms. Technically you can modify any form you like in Dynamics.Dic - original Microsoft Dynamics GP objects repository. But you might encounter future upgrade issues - original forms are subject to redesign by Microsoft Dynamics subdivision without any notice

? Dexterity Reports. As software developer you can create new Dexterity report, assuming that you will also provide new Dex form, where report will be getting parameters

? Dexterity Alternatives. In 1990th the alternatives were VBA - you could modify Greta Plains form with Modifier and include VBA scripting into your modification - Dynamics.vba is the dictionary, storing your modification. In 2000th you have .Net instruments, such as eConnect with XML Web Services interface. Technically eConnect is very powerful, but comparing to Dexterity - Dex has access to all Dynamics GP objects, while eConnect is secondary enabler - it has access to objects, covered by eConnect development team. Future direction will probably give more options to Business Portal developer, using either eConnect or manipulating another future interface for Great Plains objects

? Dexterity Advancements. These are typically related to Microsoft Great Plains Source Code Programming. Very good extension is posting server, allowing ecommerce developer automatically post GP batches in such modules as Sales Order Processing, GL, Inventory Control, POP, and others

? Comparison to Other Microsoft Dynamics Products. Microsoft Dynamics ERP family include Axapta, Navision, Solomon and with some restrictions Microsoft CRM. Dexterity should be compared with similar technologies: Axapta Microsoft Dynamics AX - MorphX / X++, Navision Microsoft Dynamics NAV C/SIDE

? Heterogeneous. Or cross platform software development: Oracle, IBM, Sybase, Ingress: Oracle Financials/Ebusiness Suite, Lotus Notes Domino. Microsoft SQL Server technology gives you Linked Server concept, Oracle gives you similar technologies, plus from Java/J2EE you can create various JDBC/ODBC bridges or native drivers

Teaching Children the Game of Golf

March 17th, 2008 by britney008

So, you think your little guy might be the next Tiger Woods? If you think your child has a propensity for golf, or if you have a love for the game that you want to share, how can you best teach your youngster the game? How can you tell that they are ready to learn? What age is best to start a child on learning golf if you want to develop a quality player?

Golf, a detailed and complex sport, can be tough to teach to kids. For this reason, get them started early and ensure that you build a firm foundation in their gameplay so that they learn to be confident in the sport and in their own abilities. This type of learned confidence can help them embrace the complexities of the game as a whole and will turn them into golfers that are ready to learn.

Once a child is walking well independently and able to hold a child-sized golf club, he or she is probably ready for the first introduction to the sport. This can happen when the child is as young as two or three years old. Preschool children will not be ready to play golf as a game, but they can be given small putters and practice swinging the club correctly.

Children at this age learn almost everything through imitation. The best way to teach them proper swinging and putting techniques is to demonstrate, and then have them imitate the motions. But use caution that you do not make this tedious for the child. These imitation sessions should be short and fun. Try having the child hit a small balloon. Not only will this be fun, but the child will also have success in hitting the balloon, which will keep the frustration at bay. To make it even more fun, try filling the balloons with water for added resistance! This is a great summer time activity for you and for your child!

Once the child has entered school and has a good handle on the swinging and putting techniques learned through observation, it is time to start teaching the game of golf. School aged children are accustomed to verbal instruction and can listen to explanations about the game better than their preschool counterparts. You need to keep in mind, however, that they are still children! They will thrive on encouragement, and all teaching sessions should be kept upbeat!

Start by taking your child to the driving range. Show your son or daughter how to hit the ball correctly, aiming for distance. The driving range is a good place to start since there is not a specific target they must reach, so the child is less likely to get frustrated. After the child demonstrates aptitude on the driving range, you can head to the course. By this point you should be able to tell whether or not your child is going to share your love for the game of golf.

Parents need to remember that no matter how hard they try, not all children have the same likes and dislikes that their parents have. If you have introduced your child to the game of golf, and he or she does not enjoy it, try not to push them. By pushing, you might find that you drive your child away from the game. All you can do is give them the experience at an early age, and they must come to a conclusion about the game on their own.

How Can A Web Site Create Income?

March 17th, 2008 by britney008

Many people are making a very good living from their web sites! How can a web site make money?

The Internet has been a place of free information and a place where you could read about any subject for free, and it still is.

But it has changed to also be a huge market place with large amounts of money being spent every day. All you can think of from music to cars and skyrockets are available.

There are different models of making money online.

Each model have advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the most common models:

Set up an online store

An online store will sell goods through it’s web site including delivery to the door. This model requires a lot of work and it’s nearly the same as having a real world store. You have to do all the same procedures and everything except the actual shop location are needed.

Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing has become one of the most popular methods of making money from a web site. A high percentage of online merchants have an affiliate program. You’ll become an affiliate of the merchant when you sign up to join the affiliate program.

You will link to the merchants products from your site and get a percentage of every purchase made from your links. The links can be implemented in the form of banners and or text links in your content.

Advertising at your web site

Google’s AdSense program is a popular maintenance free income source. Once accepted into the program it’s very easy to implement. You just insert a code into your pages and appropriate ads for your pages theme will show up. The difference between AdSense and an affiliate program is that you will get paid a small amount every time a visitor clicks on your ads.

Of course there are plenty of other advertising networks available. As they all work more or less the same no detailed description is necessary. Other well known ad networks: Yahoo, adbrite, azoogle ads, chitika… just to name a few.

The drop shipping model

Drop shipping means that you sell hard goods without having to actually store or handle it. The goods will be handled, stored and even delivered by a drop shipping company. The goods will be delivered as if you were the sole provider. This has the advantage that your online presence will appear to be an online store when in fact all you need is a website.

Making money from a web site will not be achieved over night, but it can be done if you are willing to work at it. Keep going and you will have all the chances in the world.

How does it differ from traditional toppers?

As the name implies, bridal shower cake jewelry involves some kind of shine, whether its crystal, rhinestone, silver, gold, or glass. It is ornamental in nature.

What types of cake jewelry are available?

Monograms are very popular. You can also use silk flowers with crystals, in a color to match your decorations. A jeweled picture frame is another great idea.

How do I decide which topper to use?

Consider your theme, the type of party you are having, and the size of the cake.

Where can I purchase these?

Enjoy Sabah’s Eco-Treasures

Adventure seekers flock to Sabah to climb Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in South-east Asia, or go scuba diving at Spidan, touted as one of the world’s best dive spots.

Sabah is located on the northern tip of Borneo, the third largest island in the world. Its capital, Kota Kinabalu, is a 2 and 1/2 hour flight from Singapore.

The other name to Sabah is “The Land Below The Wind”. It is blessed with some of nature’s most breathtaking wonders. It has the world’s oldest rainforest’s and lots of sandy beaches, tropical islands and colorful coral reefs.

For nature lovers and shutterbugs, this is also the place to come face to face with a reat diversity of wildlife in their natural habitats, such as orang utans, proboscis, monkeys, sea turtles and, if you are lucky, the world’s largest flower, Rafflesia

Forest and Hot Springs in Sabah

Do not like to climb mountain? Well, you can still enjoy the sights and sounds around Moutn Kinabalu without doing much vertical exercise.

Just take a drive to Kinabalua Park, which is juts about 2 hours from Kota Kinabalua. The park is Malaysia’s first Unesco World Heritage Site. It encompasses Mount Kinabalua and covers an area larger than Singapore.

>From the park’s headquarters, take a stroll on one of the walking trails and enjoy the serenity, fresh air, tiny creatures and flora along the way. Go on a guided tour if you want to identify what you see. Include Poring in your itinerary if you want to try the canopy walkway and hot springs. It is about 40km away from Kinabalua park HQ.

Sabah may be home to Rafflesia, the largest flower in the flower, but it is difficult to see one because it takes nine to 15 months to bud and lasts only seven days in bloom.

Rivers and Monkeys

If you want to see wildlife, go on a river safari, such as Klias Wetlands which is 20km from Kota Kinabalua. But bear in mind that a river safari is not a zoo. So do not expect the animals to perch prominently on tree branches for you to gawk at as your boat sail by.

But the fun is that if you look hard enough, you will spot them. M sharp-eyed travel mate managed to spot a family of proboscis monkeys before our boatman did. Look out for other monkeys, birds, fireflies and crocodiles too. Bring along your binoculars or a camera with zoom lens. And do not forget to take a poncho because you never know when it might rain.

The Sand, Sea and Seafood in Sabah

In less than 20 minutes, you can hop from city to coral life - that is how close the nearest snorkel and drive sites are to Kota Kinabalua.

The Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park has five islands, which are surrounded by extensive coral reefs. You an take a short boat ride from the mainland or check into one of the island resorts for an idyllic escapade. Do not worry if you cannot swim or snorkel. You can walk under the sea while keeping your head dry and your glasses on - with the Sea-walker air-hosed helmet.

While you may feel a bit clumsy with the bulky fish-bowl helmet, you can breathe through your nose underwater. And to refuel what you have lost from all that swimming, sea walking or lazing around, hop to Manukan Island for a yummy barbecue buffet lunch under the shade of the coconut trees.
